Well hello there beautiful past, present, and future Habesha brides!

I have been doing bridal makeup for about eight years, and the one question I always hear is, “Do I really need to hire a makeup artist for my wedding, or can I just do my own makeup?”

The answer is HECK YES, you need to hire a makeup artist! (I promise, that answer was completely unbiased!)

So, you’re probably wondering why I chose Yes! Reasons below:

This is your special day! The day you have been dreaming about since you were a little girl (well for most at least haha!). With that being said, this is not the day to let your sister’s mom’s counsin’s third niece’s baby mama play makeover on you!  Trust me, not the day! Maybe like on a Sunday night, but Not on your wedding day. What if you come out looking like Mimi from the drew Carey show, and then your future husband leaves you at the alter ! Okay, maybe I’m exaggerating, but you get the drift.

Who wants to do their own makeup on their wedding day anyways? Even as a makeupartist, I’m 99% sure I will have my makeup applied by another professional makeup artist on my own wedding day. (Whenever that is..Future Husband where you at?

 This is not your everyday eyeliner and mascara type of makeup. Yes, I know, Habesha women love their black eyeliner! Thanks Moms! On your wedding day, you should have a tad bit more on than normal to ensure great picture/video turnouts. Look for a makeup artist who is able to enhance the beauty that is already there! (not cakey, overdone foundation, or brows that are on a billion!).

On a serious note, there are a lot of things to remember when it comes to considering hiring professionals to help you get dolled on your special day.

Professional makeup artists are like fingerprints. We all have our own style, so it is important to do your homework and find the one that will be able to execute your vision!  I can’t speak for all but makeupartist are familiar with the effects of photography. This is actually the main reason why you should hire one. A great makeup artist will know the do’s and dont’s to ensure that your pictures come out beautifully! I always remind my brides that other than their memories, pictures and videos are what they have left to look back on.

So with that being said future habesha brides, do your research and find a makeupartist who fits YOUR vision!
