After spending hundreds and even thousands of dollars on the perfect venue, photographer, caterer and videographer, what happens if it rains and your venue is flooded? What if your videographer gets sick? Of course, these are not things you want to think about? However, planning ahead can save you a lot of time and money. Wedding insurance may seem like a silly idea but it can actually save you thousands of dollars.

 

What is wedding insurance?

Wedding insurance simply covers your wedding expenses in the event something outside of your control happens. We get it, you are on a budget and want to save where you can. This isn’t the time to cut corners. Spending $165 – $500 can save you thousands, depending on the amount of coverage you want.  Generally, liability insurance cost $180, which covers up to $1,000 for accidents.

A great place to start is with your home, condo, renters or automobile insurance carrier. Insurance carriers typically offer a variety of insurance options sp be sure to shop around and receive quotes from multiple vendors.

 

Don’t overspend!

Leverage the fact that you are a current customer if you call your insurance carrier. Don’t be afraid to express that because you are getting married that you and your spouse will be looking to combine insurance carriers. Try it! What’s the worse thing that could happen? After asking your carrier, shop around. You want to get the best deal possible. However, purchase it from a reputable insurance carrier. Be sure to check with each of your your vendors to see how well they’re covered. Most vendors will have their own insurance to cover lost should a couple change their minds.

You will want to ask this specific question to each insurance carrier. Frequently covered:

  • Cancellation or postponement
  • Wedding photographs/video
  • Wedding gifts
  • Lost of deposits
